If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, then this is the way we want to start ours. Homemade granola is one our favorite DIY projects because of how creative it can be! Use your favorite grains, dried fruits, and add-ins to come up with a unique creation that is yours. We especially love this variation by Lauren that combines puffed brown rice cereal with rolled oats, nutty pecans, and tart dried cranberries. Instead of using oil to bind it all together, Lauren substitutes unsweetened applesauce and pure maple syrup for an all-natural twist that cuts down on the fat while adding flavor. Keep this around the house for breakfast all week or package it up in decorative bags for a delicious homemade foodie gift.
“ I strive to find a balance between the two basic food philosophies of ‘eat to live’ and ‘live to eat.’ I believe that food should be (and is!) one of the great pleasures of leading a healthy lifestyle. ”
You shouldn’t feel like you’re eating rabbit food while trying to live a healthy lifestyle and Lauren’s approach to cooking and food in general shows us that we can eat well and live well at the same time. Her recipes are fresh, healthy, and diverse while still being packed with flavor. She still lets herself indulge (in fact, she eats dessert every night!) but makes small, smart decisions along the way so she can still feel good about what she’s putting into her body. This is the definition of “feel good food” and we certainly feel good after trying her recipes!
