Spicy Salmon Burgers

Swap beef for freshly ground salmon in this spicy burger

When you’re searching for something that is both healthy and substantial enough to satisfy your burger cravings, look no further than this recipe for spicy salmon burgers from Simone’s Kitchen. Fish makes for a great sandwich, and in this case, ground salmon replaces the typical ground beef and provides a boost in vitamins and heart healthy Omega-3 fatty acids.

These burgers have a distinct Asian flair, inspired by Simone’s many travels. Thai red curry paste brings the heat and is ground with salmon, grated fresh ginger, soy sauce, and cilantro (referred to as coriander in the recipe) to form the patties. Many burger recipes get their flavor from various toppings and condiments, but in this recipe, all the flavor is contained within the patty itself. Once formed, the burgers are then gently rolled in panko, or Japanese-style, breadcrumbs, which serve a dual purpose: They add a crispy, crunchy outer layer and also help keep the patties from falling apart. Alternatively, you could eliminate this step to keep these burgers gluten-free and equally as tasty (just be sure to use gluten-free soy sauce!). A final squeeze of lemon after pan frying adds brightness and cuts through some of the richness from the fish. Serve these as you would a burger – between a bun – or over a big, green salad for even more health benefits.

In addition to being a healthy and flavorful substitute for hamburgers, these salmon burgers have only eight ingredients and can be prepped and cooked in under twenty minutes, making them a quick and family-friendly weeknight meal. Meat lovers and health conscious alike will appreciate this creative twist on the sandwich classic. Don’t get stuck in your same old burger ways!
