In the Liquor Cabinet: What is Licor 43?

When testing out our mixology skills at home, we love trying to perfect the classics but we also enjoy exploring new flavor combinations using interesting ingredients. If you’ve ever browsed the liqueur aisle of your liquor store, you’ve probably seen hundreds of bottles like Licor 43 and thought, “what the heck is that?” Here’s the answer:

Licor 43 is a sweet Spanish liqueur with a secret recipe dating back to 209 BC. Made of 43 different ingredients (hence the name), it has a sweet citrus flavor with vanilla and warm spice that’s supposed to be reminiscent of a “Spanish summer.” It can be served neat or on the rocks as an aperitif or as an ingredient in cocktails.

Since it has such a unique combination of ingredients, there’s nothing else that’s quite like Licor 43. Depending on the other ingredients in a cocktail, different flavors of Licor 43 can shine through, adding extra depth, acidity, sweetness, and spice to your drink. At around $25-$30 a bottle, we highly recommend adding a bottle to your bar and trying it out!
