Make Your Own Microwave Popcorn Using a Brown Paper Bag

DIY Microwave Popcorn: How to make your own popcorn in a brown paper bag

A big bowl of popcorn is the perfect snack for a casual movie night or a Game Day watching party with friends. If you’ve bought  the microwaveable packets of popcorn from the grocery store, have you looked at the ingredients? It’s not pretty, trust us. We’ve found a trick to make your own microwave popcorn that’s healthier, so much cheaper, and just as fast! Here’s how:

Add 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels to a brown paper lunch bag (like the one you used to take to school as kids). Fold the top over a few times and microwave on high for 1 1/2 minutes or until the popping slows down. Add salt or any other flavorings to the bag, shake it up, and you’re good to go!

From 1/3 cup of unpopped kernels, you’ll get about 2 quarts of popcorn, which is just right for 2 people. Repeat the process for more but avoid adding more than 1/3 cup of kernels to one bag so you leave plenty of room to pop. Since you can shake the seasonings right in the bag, it makes for easy clean-up. No preservatives, no junk, and less money out of your pocket!

Hi Nosh On It – Your TIPS are one of my favorite items on here. Can you consider adding photos to them so they’re more pinterest-friendly? I would love to pin them for later reference!

    • Hey @bfc2c6e98cdd30b92ad9927fa347dc30:disqus, thanks for the comment. We’re glad you’re finding the tips to be valuable. That’s a great point about including pictures to make the tips more Pinterest-friendly. They’ll also add a nice visual component to a lot of our tips – sometimes it’s easier to follow a picture example rather than text. Keep an eye out for pictures being added in the next couple of weeks. We’ve dedicated some time to do this.
