Quinoa might be one of the most versatile ingredients out there and we always have a box in the freezer to throw into salads, soups, or even baked goods. For convenience, we like to cook up a large batch of quinoa at one time then keep it on hand for the entire week. You should only keep cooked quinoa in the fridge for up to 3 days so if you want to store it for longer, here’s how:
Spread the cooked quinoa onto a baking sheet and allow to cool to room temperature (this helps it cool faster).
Once completely cool, measure the quinoa into 1 or 2 cup portions and separate into freezer zip-top bags.
Squeeze out the excess air, seal the bag, and store in the freezer for up to 2 months.
To defrost, either let one of the bags sit at room temperature for 1-2 hours or empty the quinoa into a bowl and microwave for 1 minute.
That’s it! We’ve found that frozen cooked quinoa doesn’t lose as much of it’s fluffy texture as you would think so you can easily make a huge batch and store it in the freezer for later.
